5.0 out of 5 stars Temperature just right, in the long run, October 10, 2007

This review is from: Presto 05466 Stainless Steel Dual Basket Pro Fry Immersion Element Deep Fryer (Kitchen)
In light of Shelley Ryan's excellent report on the problem she had with her Presto fryer, I thought I should report my own experience. I filled my fryer with oil and let it come up to temperature on the highest setting. I checked the temperature with my own thermometer when the light went out, and indeed the temperature was only around 340 degrees rather than 375 as it should be. But, after simply mixing the oil around a bit with the drip baskets, I found that within a few minutes the temperature rose right up to 375 degrees, as it was supposed to be. The heating elements are very close to the unit's internal thermostat, and I think that you need to get the oil moving a bit in order for all of the oil to heat uniformly up to the correct temperature.

Of course, once the food gets frying there is plenty of movement in the oil to even out the temperature. And given the substantial amount of oil and the amount of power supplied by the unit's heating elements, I find that it... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great fryer, May 30, 2008
This review is from: Presto 05466 Stainless Steel Dual Basket Pro Fry Immersion Element Deep Fryer (Kitchen)
When I decided to purchase a fryer, I started by first doing research; reading online reviews(like this)and reading consumer publication reviews. Next I go to the manufacturer's website of the fryers that look good and download the instruction manuals for the model I am interested in. This allows me to really get a feel for the products features and find out if there are any drawbacks.Last,I went to some local stores to get a hands on look at fryers with similar capacities and features as the one(s)I am considering. This gave me a real since of how much food I could fry in these machines. So, having done all this I decided to go with the Presto ProFry(05466).
I have used the Presto Profry 3 times, frying shrimp, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes. Everything has cooked up nice and crisp with very little oily feeling or taste. This fryer comes with two half size baskets(about the same size as a basket in the smaller machines), but by going to the Presto web site I found out I could get... Read more

I got this fryer from my dad.He bought it because it was dirt cheap and looked great. At first, even at the 375F setting this frier would not get any hotter than 360F, so I decided to sell it on Ebay, and get another one, since Im starting to do some experiments for a Burger Franchise @Burgerhaus.

I had a burger fest on a weekend so I decided to try frying about 10 KG of fries on a Sunday.
The frier worked great, but sometimes the temperature was not enough when frying 1KG at once on the 2 baskets.

After looking on how the temperature sensors are secured, I decided to try modifying the fryer.
It seems that the sensors are perfectly calibrated for the temperatures on the dial. However, this sensors are attached with a metal plate directly to the heating element, so what the fryer actually reads its an average from the Oil temp and the heating element temp.

Removing the supporting plate and 2 screws that hold the sensors, allows the fryer to... Read more

Amazon.com Review

You don't need a 6- gallon oil vat to enjoy deep- fried foods at home--this petite deep fryer makes four big servings with just 4 cups of oil. A compact 7 inches in diameter, the fryer features easy controls for precision frying: it automatically maintains the proper frying temperature, letting you focus on cooking instead of fussing with the controls. The fryer features a snap-on lid, so you can store oil right in the fryer for reuse. All surfaces are nonstick for tidy cleanup (the fryer is not dishwasher-safe and should never be completely immersed in water). A hand scoop is included with the fryer for easy stirring, lifting, and draining, and the 120-volt AC cord unplugs from the outlet, while the attached handle makes the fryer easy to move around the kitchen. The fryer has a two-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

I've had one of these little fryer appliances since they first became popular in the seventies. The current model is the second one I've had, being larger than the original model that came out.

For someone not needing to fry enormous amounts at one time, this little machine is ideal. It requires only a very small amount of vegetable oil. I've used it to fry chicken wings, quickly, to do french fries and onion rings, to do other smaller chicken parts, and it works beautifully. There is no thermostat; you just plug it in, wait 10 minutes, and the temp is 375. Having such a small amount of grease, it recovers heat more quickly than an electric skillet.

When you are through, if you plan to reuse the grease you can simply let the machine cool, snap the plastic top on, the put the whole thing in the fridge. I don't fry that often, and when I do, I tend to fry a lot, so usually I just discard the oil. Such a small amount is used (usually no more than 3 cups starting out) that I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars The Pros and Cons, February 6, 2009

This review is from: Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer (Kitchen)
After spending more money on 2 faulty deep fryers (Rival is hit-or-miss for quality), I've finally settled on this little beauty.

Pros:
1.) Cheap and simple, a very compact and minimalist package overall. It is nothing more than a steel bucket with a heating element underneath.

2.) Fries at 350 degrees, 25 short of "ideal" but safe for cooking with lard and lower smoke point oil. Try lard if you never have, you can still get it in supermarkets.

3.) Milled steel bucket, cast aluminum base. Inside has a permanent synthetic non-stick surface. Clean up and changing oil is simple.

Cons:
1.) This fryer isn't for families with young children or dumb people. Hot oil is always dangerous to work around and this unit is a STEEL BUCKET FULL OF OIL. The outside is hot. The inside is hot. It's hot.

2.) Doesn't have a lid to stop the occasional spatter.

3.) The bottom and healing element are shielded, but it will still warm... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for my frying needs, March 26, 2002

This review is from: Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer (Kitchen)
I fry things about 1-2 times a week, and I liked my fried things to be very crispy yet not laden with oil. I wanted something that would truly get to a hotter frying temperature, to make my frying quicker and more "healthful"...(healthy frying....is that an oxymoron or what?) Because I don't fry THAT often, I just needed something simple.

I like this fryer because the heat-up time is very quick, and there is much less splatter then if you were frying in a pot. When I fry, I usually do your typical fried foods: fries, onion rings, wontons, etc. I have not tried to do anything else in it yet.

If the oil is fairly clean after I use it, I will put it in the refridgerator, but not keep more than a week. This is a very simple fryer. If you are a more heavy-duty fryer, then you might want to look into a fancier one. The exterior is not cool-touch, and there is no basket. If you only do small batches of things, and don't really fry that much, or even if you do, then... Read more

Presto 07211 Liddle Griddle for $28.58

Customer Rating :
Rating: 4.7

List Price : $49.99 Price : $28.58
Presto 07211 Liddle Griddle

Product Description

8 1/2 x 10 1/2 size. Cast aluminum for heat distribution. DiamondCoat deluxe nonstick finish. Control Master heat control maintains temperature automatically. Built-in grease tray. Cast aluminum. 120v AC 1000 watts

Amazon.com Review

Ideal for one person or two, this compact electric griddle with its 8-1/2-by-10-1/2-inch cooking surface cooks four fried eggs or two good-sized steaks. Coated with a slightly textured, durable nonstick finish, the griddle requires very little grease, thereby producing healthier food. For fattier meats like bacon, a built-in channel along one end catches drippings. When the griddle’s heat control is removed, the unit is fully submersible in warm, soapy water. The 1000-watt griddle plugs into any 120-volt outlet and automatically maintains temperatures ranging from warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Made of cast aluminum that resists warping and distributes heat evenly, the griddle measures 14-3/4 by 10 by 2-1/2 inches (the heat-resistant leg-handle units can be unscrewed for even more compact storage), and is covered by a one-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

I bought this for my Grandmother who cooks for two. It is small and compact enough to put in your cabinets and doesn't take a lot of counter space while you are using it. Its the perfect size to make pancakes, eggs and bacon! We used it to make grilled cheese, and they came out perfect! This would be great for singles, college students, and anyone who likes great things in small packages!

For years we had a large griddle made by a different manufacturer. It was terrific, but when I finally dropped it and the plastic handle/supports broke, I realized it was time for a new one. Plus, I was no longer cooking for a crowd, but for just the two of us. With this Liddle Griddle, I'm amazed at how much more precise the temperature control is, and how much more often we use this thing -- often in preference over a skillet, which takes up more room in the dishwasher. (Yes, I said dishwasher.) Though the earlier one could be washed in the dishwasher, it was too big. This one fits easily, and still leaves plenty of room for a day's worth of stuff. The non-stick coating seems very durable and works as it's supposed to. I've rarely been so pleased with a small appliance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Lidde Griddle there is!, November 28, 2005
By

This review is from: Presto 07211 Liddle Griddle (Kitchen)
We have really enjoyed our liddle griddle. Its convenient to cook anything. It's especially good for breakfast - pancakes, bacon & eggs. But we have also ended up cooking hamburgers or porkchops on it when the gas grill has run out of fuel. The size makes it easy to clean and store. We are ordering our third griddle shortly - we use them so much that the surface wears out. Now, don't get me wrong - our first griddle lasted about 5 years, the last one about 2 years. Again, we use it all the time. It really is one of the best purchases for our kitchen we have ever made.
